The monogastric research section is focussed on increasing efficiency of production and finding alternatives to current unsustainable practices. A substantial body of research is conducted on alternatives to antimicrobial growth promotors and include amongst others organic acids, phytogenics, pre- and probiotics, chitin and chitosan. The increased pressure on protein sources is addressed through research on novel protein sources such as insect protein, alternative oilcakes and protein hydrolysates. Energy sources being researched include non-standard energy sources such as insect lipids, cassava and various grain by-products.
