Project Title: Bio preservative potential of grape polyphenol extracts in enhancing dairy products quality and shelf life.

Short Bio: I am currently pursuing a PhD in Animal Sciences at Stellenbosch University, with a strong focus on dairy science and the incorporation of bioactive compounds such as grape polyphenols to enhance milk quality. My academic and research interests stem from a deep-rooted passion for improving livestock productivity and product quality through sustainable, science-based innovations. The motivation behind pursuing this degree is to contribute to the growing field of functional foods and sustainable animal production systems. By combining knowledge in animal nutrition, physiology, and food science, I aim to develop strategies that not only improve animal health and performance but also enhance the nutritional value of dairy products for human consumption. Over the next 5–10 years, I aspire to be at the forefront of research and development in animal product innovation, either through a research institution or in collaboration with the dairy industry. I hope to contribute to policy, teaching, and applied research that addresses global challenges such as food security, climate change, and public health through advancements in animal science.

Project Title: The effect of canola oil on in vitro ruminal gas production kinetics, in vivo production, and intrinsic methane production and performance in feedlot lambs.

Short Bio: I am researching the effect of canola oil on methane emissions in feedlot lambs. I am doing this study since it is my goal to hopefully make the industry more sustainable and to change the public’s view about these animals and their role in climate change. I am passionate about the ruminant industry and my hope is to one day work in this field.
